Bangkok Bank has been open for more than 70 years and is one of the largest regional banks in Southeast Asia. However, its branch design was created 20 years before this project began. With more than 1000 branches across Thailand and Southeast Asia, this flagship branch served as a prototype to be duplicated across the bank’s entire branch network. This required creating an interior architecture handbook that detailed how to duplicate the branch design at other locations.

This project also involved refining clunky elements of the Bangkok Bank corporate brand identity, as well as redesigning the ATM booth and e-banking service, exterior facade and logo, furniture design, and teller (high counter) station.

Bangkok Bank’s mission is to serve as a lifelong companion to its customers, so its target customers also include many young adults interested in making long-term investments. However, Bangkok Bank was perceived as being for old people, so to appeal to its new generation of customers, a more relaxing and friendly interior space was created to elicit a welcoming and unstuffy feeling.

From the site analysis, a layout plan was created to help maximize energy saving, and for sustainable design each workstation made use of individual lighting. The layout was also specifically designed to manage workflow circulation throughout the interior space.

Bangkok Bank has a good reputation and the lotus flower in its logo is widely recognized as the bank’s symbol, so the company logo without the bank’s name was used throughout the interior and exterior, but always on a clean background.

The color scheme from the bank’s corporate identity was also reflected in the materials used, including coated glass and laminated wood finishing.
